Friends........................

We have this Norwegian couple that we have known for about 2 years now, they have in a way called Penang their home for the past 12 years or so, they have since become our good friends and our occasional drinking buddies.

Last week we had some drinks with them, as we were merrily drinking away, i suddenly said this to the lady friend, " Hey Turid, before i forget, i must return this to you?" she looked surprised and she did not have a single idea of what i was talking about.

I drew out a well ironed sweater that i borrowed from her the last time we gathered ( the reason i borrowed because my son needed it to go for a movie)

Our friends Turid and Sidmon............

She really looked very surprised with this dutiful gesture of mine and she immediately interrupted her husband who was talking to my lovely wife then and telling him this," Look what is this Eugene doing, returning the sweater to us." then it was the husband's turn looking at me blank and profusely saying this to me," Thank you Thank you, Elsom, thank you Elsom. ( Elsom is the name they gave me claiming that it was Eugene in Norwegian language)

It was my turn to get very suprised with both of their reaction from the sweater that i returned to them. Curiously i asked them why was it that surprised them and made them feel so happy with a sweater, then came the answer from the lady friend.

She said, " Elsom, we have been living here for so many years, there had been many so called friends borrowing things from us, from vaccum cleaner to money and guess what, there has never been a single time anyone of them returning the things that borrowed form us, you and Phobee iare the first to do it, that's why we are happy and just when we thought could only be taken advantage of , both of you showed us otherwise, thank you."

Now i know how to be a better friend......................................................

Note: You got any friends borrowed things from you, never return and you too shy to ask back?

P/S : Friends are to keep and not to be ripped

  4. What is life without true and sincere friends? People also borrow things from me, even money...and never return. I also try to help friends and lend them this and that and they never return either. It's o.k. I will just have to live with it. Sigh! God is all-seeing, all-knowing...

  10. Just to share with you.. My son left his water tumbler at home and had to borrow a ringgit from his classmate to buy a bottle of water from the school canteen.

When he returned the money, the girl was so happy and said "Thank You" to my son, happy that she's got a ringgit extra to spend, and saying "Thank You" simply because the money lent wasn't expected to be returned?

  11. Yup Elsom, I have some of these so-called friends.. But it's true what they say, if a friend borrowed 20 from you and you never see him again, he's probably worth it.

I remember there is this so call Doctorate fellow borrow my limited edition CD (2 pcs classical music) and never return until I ask from his secretary, and he replied that he never borrow from me. When I try to ask him again, then he said he already returned to me long ago. Come on, PhD holder leh, but never seem to return thing that is borrowed. What a shame!
