My childhood games VS their childhood games

I guess those born in the 60s or prior to that era, would really agree with me that our school holidays were so much fun back then.

I remember,I would go hiking, chopping down bamboo shoots to make what we called a "Pop Pop"pump gun and the bullets would be some kind of seeds that we would pluck down from one kind of tree, then me and my friends would play combat in the jungle.

Getting dirty by playing in the drains, trying to find those lost 5 or 10 cents coins and playing "S", (you know those little S shaped plastic that you could join them up to become a long rope) and many many more.

You know I don't want to sound so "nagging" to my boys by telling them,"You know boys, last time when papa was small, we played this, this and this and it was really fun and how I miss those games" but seeing my boys and other children alike in this age always "glued" to their PSP, Xbox, online games,Ipads,Iphone, I really feel like telling them, get out and play.

I really want my sons to be an"outdoor" person, I try to get them to walk, to run with me but sometimes when I see them rather glue to their gadgets, somehow I feel that I have failed to be a "complete" papa, particularly so during school holidays.

I tried to console myself from feeling "incomplete" by telling myself,"what the heck, let them do what they like during the school holidays for when it is over, they have their stress too"...........

Okay lah, this is just my school holiday ranting,,,,,,,by the way what is your most memorable childhood game or games?

This is what I meant the "Pop Pop Pump Gun" made from bamboo shoot.

These are the stacks of those cards that we used to play by each holding a card in one's palm and we need to hit each other's palm, then let the cards drop onto the floor,if my card faces up and the opponent's faces down, then I will repossess his card,,,,,,,so cool

P/S : It is good to feel the Sun....t

  1. Those were the days when we didn't have modern games. We used to play outside the house and it was really fun.

  2. Now, if I see a family and their kids not holding an Ipad or tablet anywhere, I give my respect to that family.

  3. Time has changed, their time and our time not the same anymore. Let them do what they enjoy - not everyone is an outdoor person or into sports like you. I'm not...and looking back, my parents never approved of my interests - music, dancing and it makes me feel sad somewhat but I guess they had their reasons and their ways.

  7. Fly kite I mean real ones hehe. Bakuli also my favorite got nick name 'ah chew king' as you gotta bend your 3rd finger with the left hand to fling the marble, top spinning made from guava tree branch and guess anything that is foc or dirt cheap games. Of course gotta work for it like gulong kite string for my senior for weeks to get a free kite. Also quite smart to 'unstring' my late mama #10 string from her sewing kit to fly kite.

  8. Wow! You still keep those cards?? Hmm, I remember we used to play jumping ropes, skipping, playing with marbles and hitchhop. Nowadays my kids learn all those games through tv (cartoons) but never experience it. Maybe I will teach my kids how to play hitchop since they know what it is.

  9. Many other old fun games we played. In our old days we had more DIY toys.
