Fooled by randomness............

How many times have we said this before,"never mind lah, once in a while.let us enjoy" that phrase of "once in a while" is like being fooled by randomness. We thought we would just do it randomly, not habitually not compulsory and not regulary but sometimes the end result could send shiver down to your spine.........so the story goes.

Last night, my lovely wife was sharing this with me,she said" after paying off all the credit card bills,(she has the habit of paying off all her credit card bills, even before it appears in her next statement, not leaving one cent in the outstanding column), I am left with this meagre amount"

I was like kind of shock with her revelation, to me this could not be the case,(don't worry we still have some cash to shoulder on until the end of the month,,hahahahah)We have always been very careful of our spending, when I recollected the spending habits of us this month, i truly realized that we had indeed been fooled by randomness.

One weekend, we truly enjoyed ourselves with expensive dinner and I was telling my family, "never mind lah, eat good good, once in a while, must enjoy" then the next day without realizing it, i was saying the same thing to my family and another expensive dinner and the following weekend, it was the same statement I made.....................

After counting the amount of money we have spent on food alone, it was truly "out of norm" for me in particular, we did it as if the world was going to end or as if we still managed to have those,"once in a while" enjoyments.

Note : Good habits are hard to keep, sometimes.

P/S : Randomly, we can be fooled

  3. Haha the budget for food is always the hardest to control for me too... perhaps should really plan ahead like in one month have what event or occasion and both you and your family can only go out for rather expensive food on that particular day. other than those days... just keep it simple... its true that once in a while we need to enjoy some good food, nice environment... if not, we'll only live to earn for a boring life... haha

  7. Nowadays ppl tend to spend more on food. You can see restaurants always fully packed up during weekends. It's so different from last time when my dad only brought us for dinner at KFC once in like 4-5 months =.=

nvm la.. you do it out of love for your family. Just be more careful not to overspend on food next time lo :) have a blessed week, Eugene.

  10. You know what bro, it happens to us too... i guess pretty normal for a lot of ppl. Sometimes I think, hey RM200 for a family of 4-5 (depends on where and if maid eats together or not), one day a week is ok mah... but then the following week, same thing, and before you know it, it's easily
    RM800 in that month!!!

Nowadays everything so expensive. 1st June my daughter's tuition price goes up, and Eu Yan Sang will raise price (again!) and I don't know what else. Our country too hot and unsafe to cycle or walk to work/errands.

And our govt talking about GST?!!! That's sh*tty, coz everything will be taxed, like UK's VAT, soooo expensive!

    Sorry, got carried away.

  11. Eh, btw, I love Penang for another reason... there seem to be NO inflation there in terms of food prices one... hahaha, wan tan mee for less than RM3 and blah blah... here in PJ no RM5 you better be prepared to wash dishes!

  14. I think I spent more on food...maybe its because when I was little family is not really that well off, and eating out is something that is extra ordinary....so now that me and my brother had our own income, we dont mind spending more on good food to share with the family once,uh...ok more than once in a month... =p

  15. Save for special occasions and for special times like when special visitors drop by...and always pay cash so you will feel the pinch so you will not want to do that again for a long time. Other times, I would just go for cheaper fare at stalls and shops too cheap to accept credit cards.

When we have small amount in pocket without credit card I guess we wont say this "never mind lah, once in a while.let us enjoy" haha. But honestly we spend a lot in groceries and those are really needed leh keke. Sigh $$ always not enough!!

  19. Eugene,
we all have our weakness, once in a while can add up. so must always remember when was the last time you said never mind la. before you reliase it you will be saying it again. I think safer if we set a budget that we are comfortable with and it wont hurt us too much, then it should be alright after all once in a while la. LOL.

  21. Well that's true but look at it this way, you eat good food, it's good for your body. Better than having other bad habits like shopping, haha. We only live once mah, but of course must do it within our means.

  23. Hi Eugene, ha ha, I love those expressions, "eat good good...".
I can see you live to eat, not eat to live.
I am or rather never one to enjoy going to or looking for certain makan shops or dishes.
I'll just eat something simple, anywhere...

My wife always teases me I am very adventurous with many things, but not food.
She'll try all the various foods here, Greek, Russian, Mongolian, Caribbean ...not me....
Give me sambal belachan, salt fish and maybe fried fish I am very happy, ha ha.

You have a very good wife there. Women like her don't grow on trees.
I know of husbands that have to practically tie the wife down from smoking their credit cards, ha ha.

I always enjoy hearing those very Malaysian expressions. But don't use them anymore here except my wife and I as well our Malaysian friends here have not lost that, "la" after saying something.
You stay young and have fun, Eugene.
    Best regards.
    Lee.

  24. I used this phrase a lot! Whenever I use it, I forgot when was the last time I used it before.

That's what makes it seems like so random LOL.
