I feel lousy being a dad sometimes...

There is a cliche that I can't remember how it goes but it says that you will get hurt the worst when someone hurts you is the one you love dearly, I testify that it is true.

I had a very bad quarrel with my eldest few days ago, I know he is 16 now,a big boy, mind of his own but then again when he goes beyond the lone of showing disrespect to me and even to my lovely wife, this is something that I cannot condone.

Well, I guess this is part of growing up for him,(getting angry with his dad) and as for me,it is part of feeling lousy sometimes being a dad...but then again as I eventually wrote a note to him with the ending that states,no matter what it is I still love him dearly.

P/S : It's a headache,nothing but a headache,,sometimes

  2. hey bro, firstly i disaccorded with you that the lousiness to be a father.Because non of us are created to be impecable by Lord so that we can rely on Him to shape us up perfectly. I perceived that your kid growing up and sometimes inevitable dispute between father and son may occured.Nevertheless all unpleasant dispute should not carry forward after the sunset of the day.I acquiesce is pretty easy to wrote in word and hard to do it practically.I loved your word that stated "no matter what it is I still love him dearly"bro let's us pray to the Almighty and ask His favor upon yr family.Amen.

  3. If you listened to your parents and being a goodie goodie boy to a T, then you had not gone thru those 'rebellious' process while growing up then you may not know or feel. If you have had the experience then you can cope with it pretty well. You are doing good just that certain chemistry is working different ways when children transform. Just be aware.

  6. At times my son (same age as yours) will say something that hurt my feelings too.
Once he said he wanted a voice canceling headphone (and you sure know why)
Sigh...when i am giving him advice, he thinks i am nagging him.
I told him not to give me a delayed "post natal depression", ha ha!

  11. All my friends shared their woes about their kids and mother-in-laws. Seems there is no right and wrongs there. I concluded that we should judge on the intention that counts.

Since you are the more matured one, just back out and let your son win for that moment as it will allow him to pour out for you to listen. When the time is right, you can easily explain and win his understanding & acceptance. Some friends learned bitter lessons as their child ran away for days! It was due to the parents' temper that drove the son/daughter away to seek solace at friends' homes.

  12. I can understand how tough to be a good parent now. I also caned my eldest a few days ago, as I couldn't stand her bad manner towards us and the sister. I still can tame her with cane now. But I felt terribly bad after doing that. She seems better girl after the punishment. Sigh.
