The stark reality or we being superficial ?

I was having some drinks with my lovely wife over the weekend at our usual "kopitiam", most evenings, there bound to have some so called "beers promoters" walking the floor, serving the customers or simply pushing to sell their respective beers.

Some of these "promoters" at the "kopitiams" are not that kind donning the smoking hot attires that we can see gracing the F1 races,in fact they are so called mere "aunties" trying to make end meet or to support the family with some extras.

There was this "promoter" we got to know over our previous, she was gone for a while,so last night she reappeared, we (me and wifey) were kind of happy to see her back, when she saw us,she was kind of excited as well, chatting a little here and there but she said something that really caught my attention.

She said," Tonight I am back here but I don't know if I could back here again tomorrow, cos now my supervisor said, most people don't want auntie like me, worst still I am not that pretty" then she continued," If I were to be sent to other "kopitiams" die lah, so far " I then told her this,

I said," Okay, I see what I can do for you cos I know the boss of this "kopitiam" personally, may be I would help you out here." After hearing what I said, she was so happy, kept thanking me.

I then called out to the boss, waved him over to my table then jokingly said to him,"Hey Sen, please keep this Tiger promoter, she is good and we are very happy to see her back" After hearing what I said, the boss then promised me,"No worries." He asked the promoter to give a call to her supervisor, there and then, he talked to her supervisor, done, she could stay.

The beer promoter was so happy to hear such a news, cos she can work near where she stays, she wanted to buy us a drink, I said no cos I was only doing what I could, even she is an not a so pretty auntie.

I really want to thank God that I have the "gift of the gab" that I could use at times to help out others.

P/S : Can we look beyond beauty ?

  1. A masseuse from China told me that she was a beautician in her younger days. But when hit 30, her boss said her hands are no longer smooth enough to give facial massage to client. So competitive and it is a cruel reality!
