Now I am getting better.

You know there is a verse in the Bible in the book of Psalm 15: 18 that says," A hot temper man stirs dissension but a patient man calms a quarrel"

I was just taking stock of myself,(particularly my temperament and my attitude towards my sons) Jovial to be exact, it was kind of hard and most of the times, emotionally challenged dealing with him,now that he is his teens.

Looking back of late,it had not been really all that nice,in fact it affected our "father and son" bonding when the two of us collide, sometimes I really felt like a lousy papa.

After so much of so called "soul searching", I began to look into myself and I started to put myself into his shoes,I realized that there were in fact things that I could master to make the "bad" good.None of them in my family realized this but in fact I had for the past few weeks,I have discovered that it was not that hard dealing with my teen boy.

Now I want to see more laughter and funny antics flying in the house,if they feel good, they listen.

Have a happy Chap Goh Mei

P/S : Laughter is still the best medicine

  4. Happy Chap Goh Mei to you and family.

I agree with your comment on the hard dealing with a teen, especially boys. We have been to that stage before, so now we are putting ourselves in their shoes, we would understand how and why they are going through such phase in life. :p My hubby already worry with our going-to-be-3 yo son who has a very bad temper and attitude. Gee! Wonder what he would become when he is in his teen. hahaha!

No, you are not lousy papa, you are just trying to do your best. Everyone is. You have a great day ahead, Eugene.

  5. Happy Chap Goh Meh to you & family.

I'm bracing myself for the time my son will be a teen.

But I guess like you, I have to take stock of myself when I deal with a teenage child.

We were once a teenager too. ^^

  6. We think the best for our children, often neglecting what they feel. I'm trying to take a step back and listen to my kids, understand them and be in their shoes.

Don't feel lousy, Eugene. Teens are harder to deal. Happy Chap Goh Meh~

  8. Happy to hear laughter flying around and not "daggers" .. hahaha... well, i guess in a normal family, it is not always joy all the time.. we have good and some not so good times... and through the bad times, we learn how to be better..
    Kudos!

  9. Yes, we have to understand the teens' feelings and we also need to be firm and calm about our decision. We cannot just give in to enable the teens to do stupid and crazy things...we need to explain to them in a good way and respectful way.
