Vegi I like but not the meat lookalikes

Well, today marks the last day of a 9 long days of Vegetarian Festival. In the area where I live, those stalls selling vegetarian foods are really enjoying brisk business, some I heard could earn like thousands of ringgit during this period...good for them.

I am not a vegan but once awhile,I would patronize the vegetarian shop few blocks next to my office, you know every time I go there, I enjoy those Buddhist teaching programmes shown in the restaurant, as I enjoy my food, I do take in some spiritual food as well, despite the fact that I am a Christian.

One thing I really feel very funny though and rather not agreeable to as far as those so called"vegetarian foods" are concerned, I really cannot comprehend why they have to make those vegetarian foods to the likes of "chap seo", "lok bah" "pork livers"."prawns" and others. Why can't take just make vegetarian foods, the way vegetables are supposed to be cooked.

You see,if I were to be a vegan,I really want to disassociate myself with anything meat, conspicuous or in subtle forms.......that's my personal opinion

What do you think?

P/S : The again, business is business

  2. Yes same goes to me. Once a while eat those fake "meat lookalikes" still fine. But for me it contain lot of MSG (so it can taste like a meat), high carbohydrate, coz using flour & etc.

  3. LOL! I guess for someone who consumes meat, goes vegan for 9 days... it's a torture. Hence the vegetarian food are made to look like "char siew", "fish" and lobak. Food for the mind.

  6. YES... for me, I don't make char siew (vegan) if I want to eat vegan! I prefer to use greens and also of course substitutes, but not naming them under the 'meat' category.

  7. Eugene,
I have often wonder about that too. Btw some of the vegetarian food are not cheap. Just the other day I bought one for a visitor to our factory and it cost me about rm17.00 just for 2 or 3 vege and rice.

  8. I know right? It's like giving an impression that you're eating meat but you're not. But for what purpose? I mean, you eat beef that looks like beef and tastes like beef but is in fact flour, that's like eating fake beef! pretend only... Anyway, i do enjoy vegan food sometimes, it gives an impression that im a vegan altho im not! lol

  9. Bro, you are right. For me, is better to be pure vegetarian than thinking vege drumstick lar, prawn lar, even bak kut teh oso. LoL

  10. Even Dalai Lama admits he eats meat twice a week so whether a tofu looks like a steak should not be too much a problem for us to justify.
I went to a talk by a high priest monk once, in fact he said everyone( including monks) should accept and appreciate any food one can get.

  11. i agree with you. when i am on vegetarian meal, it's only real veges.. those lookalikes are out of my list. :P If want the real thing, why have to take the fake one? weird right?

  12. Agree with you on that one. I am a vegetarian and observed fast in the last 8 holy days (ended yesterday). During this period, we only take water, fruits and milk products. However, now people gorge on "fasting" food in restaurants which ruins the very motive of fasting.

  13. I also have thought about this before. Eat vege means eat vege mah, why have to shape and flavour the vege to look and be like meat? It's something like outwardly doing good things, but have bad things in heart.....sorry, no offence, ya, to readers out there.

  14. I can answer for your question.
Those fake meat is to attract none vege ppl to eat lesser meat/kill less, because without killing you also can get to eat "meat". that's all.

coz vegan normally don't really like those so call fake meat meat.
So originally, those fake meat wasn't meant to be created for vegetarian, but to none vegetarian.

so don't say something like, mouth vege, heart thinking meat liao, very insulting lo to those vegetarians who support in no killing animals for food.

  16. For those who are 9 days vegetarian should not take so called fake meat. They should go green vegetable. You pray with your heart and mind and yet to think of fake meat. WTF

  18. sometimes I also wonder why they make the vegetarian food taste like fish cake. It is seriously taste like fish.

And I do suspect that they had mix too much of bean stuff for making the vegetarian food looks more attractive lol
