Just a little will do

Let me say this before I get into the gist of this post as related in the story below that this story has no intention to exemplify or to making me as if I am the most charitable person you ever know but instead I am gung ho about this one little thing........that we can make someone happy when we feel for them.

The cooking gas was out and my lovely wife was too busy to place an order and to wait for it to come, thus I did both yesterday(ordered and waited), about an hour's time, the Malay gas delivery man finally came, I could see he was panting for breath,(my house is the walk up apartment) I then said to him in Malay that he was truly too tired and he reciprocated with choked voice that indeed he was.

As he was fixing the gas for me, I just asked him how much he could earn by delivering gas and how many he could deliver in a day. He said he could earn RM 1.20 per tank and he could deliver about 40 to 50 tanks a day....I guess i could gauge how much he could make a month minus 4 Sundays.

When he finished fixing the gas,he passed me the bill, it was RM31.80 inclusive the surcharge of RM2 for walking the stairs............... I gave him the exact amount (cos my loose coins are aplenty at home)Before he made his way down, I asked him to wait for while, then I took out a RM5 and I passed to him.

He was surprised and he said I gave the correct amount already and then I said those extra was for him to keep,he was like very happy and he kept saying "terima kasih bos, terima kasih" then said I should thank him too for delivering the gas in time and I could see the smile on his face that he was happy.

The same night, over dinner, I was sharing this story to my boys, telling them that we don't need to do BIG things to make others happy, just a little and always trying to feel for others, they nodded and I really hope that they got the message.

There is no reason we can't make others happy, even we do not have a million

P/S : Thank God I still got some to spare

  1. I totally agree! Being generous doesnt start when you already have your first million.. it starts with your heart at any given moment and time.

an act of random kindness can always brings a smile to someone's face and to our heart =)

  9. Yea, it was so nice of you.

For some people, a little tipping would make their day happier~ You certainly did Eugene ;)

  10. you did right Eugene, I would have done the same in such a senario. i got a soft heart and especially when I see people strugling to make both end meet. I appreciate people doing an honest day's work. not those able bodied people begging at the road side. that one I will ignored them totally.

  11. A blogger used to say, a hand that helps is holier than a lip that prays. Helpful is defnitely a good value that we should instill in ourselves than only others.

  14. You are ever so kind and generous! I should learn from you. I usually would just round up to the nearest ringgit like in your instance, I would just give him rm32 and spare no further thoughts on that. Shame on me :(
