Ring ring ring

Sometimes I really feel that this gomen is one kind one lah, you see they passeed the law in the parliament already that the telco would have to pay the 6 % service tax,now they seem are unable to get it from the duty bound party.

And for so many years,I think 13 years or so,the Telcos (DIGI,MAXIS,CELCOM)were kind enough to absorb this 6 % on behalf of the prepaid users, may be at that time due to market conditions and competition(mind you, they still have to pay that tax that goes to the gomen's coffer)but now the gomen sense that,(die lah,die lah,the rakyat no syiok already) and they "kindly asked " the Telcos to halt the implementation for a while.

On the surface,we feel that the gomen is so kind,in helping to lessen the burden on the prepaid users but then again I really think it is not fair to the Telcos in asking them to absorb the tax for another how long, the gomen must make sure that doing business here in this land must be on a fair level playing ground and the gomen must also make sure that there is fairness and openness in the business community.

I know the gomen has the right to impose taxes but you see it must then again must be fair across the board............now how about me asking the gomen to ask the telco to stop charging my post paid service tax? Not fair right? prepaid one,no need to charge, post pay one, must charge, where got meaning like that one?

How about me asking the gomen to waive or reduce the import or the excise duty on imported cars, so that I can drive a brand new BMW at about RM90 K, and how about me asking the gomen to "kindly ask" Astro to reduce their subcription, some more some more, how about reduce the tax on beers, some more some more, reduce the tax on Rolex,Tag Heur,Hugo Boss so that I can afford to buy and look nice nice ma.

And some more some more,I want to ask the gomen to reduce the taxes on my running shoes, my running attire,my running watch too.

Having said that I must attest that we are duty bound to pay taxes (those were passed by law)but I really think they must really be fair to both sides, the business community and the people.

To be fair,as a consumer, we must understand that there are taxes to pay for the goods and services rendered to us.

The above is solely my opinion and you don't have to agree with me

P/S : Tax on fairness,not on favoritism

  1. As far as I'm concerned, they should charge it - not 6% but 10% or more...and hopefully, fewer people will use handphones after that...or they will have the good sense of minimising its use. You see people on the hps ALL the time, drivers in cars, students by the roadside...and curi2 use in the classroom! All so irresponsible! Then when the teachers catch them, the parents would march to the school, cursing and swearing at the top of their voices at the teachers and the school - what sort of values are these parents instilling in their children?

Case in Wellington not long ago, woman killed - run down by a car as she was crossing the road on a zebra crossing. Of course, all fingers pointed at the car...but the truth was - she was on her MP3 at the time, did not see/notice the car. Same thing with people on hp and walking across the road - I see them all the time!

  2. The thing is our government is ruled by a bunch of conman who tries to make it seem that they're taking the concerns of the rakyat into consideration but we all know that they're only interested in themselves. Getting the telcos to halt the 6% tax makes it seem like they're the good guys!

I have no issues with the telcos charging the 6% but I have loads of issues with those lying, cheating, cunning bunch of idiots that call themselves out leaders. They may sucker the less knowledgeable but a lot more of us are not stupid and believe them so easily anymore. My vote and a lot of others that I know will NOT go to them in the next GE, that's for sure.

And yes, what about us postpaid users? Still have to pay the 6%? What, they're think us postpaid users are rich, ah?

  3. I'm with you bro, I wanna drive BMW too. The tax is so much high in Malaysia. Those oversea company prefer to import their goods to Singapore, which is lower tax compared to Malaysia. Then get a transport to delivery those goods back into Peninsular Malaysia. Such big and long process still they do this way, so we clearly can know the tax charging is so high here.

  4. Tax there and there..makan pun kena tax..everything must pay tax. Lama-lama supermarket pun nak charge tax. Our life as Malaysian full of tax. Each month salary kena tax then tax higher if you got bonus or commission or what so ever..

  5. Being taxed is one issue and the way taxes are being used/misused is another.

You have raised good points here, Eugene, and I am sure many can resonate with your views!

I also agree with the other commenters, especially Nick Phillips. The Malaysian Insider
also carried an editorial on this topic.

Take care and God bless you and all.

  9. If taxes are put into proper use in transparent manner it should be OK.
But in Malaysia, most of the taxes are use to buy submarines, helicopters or as kick backs to corrupted politicians. In Sarawak, the infamous Tiab is still hanging around and trying to get his son to take over so the family can continue to rape Sarawak when he is six feet under.

  10. Sorry lah, we are living in a country when the leaders are not competent and so you have unjust laws, unstable decisions and incompetent rules :) This is really exciting. We just don't know what will come next. This is better than a roller coaster ride

  12. well, we all can complain here but make sure we also know what to do at GE13.

as you can see from the news interview with the public, most of them still think it's the telcos that imposed the 6% tax.

  13. Hmm, the govt wants to be the good guys leh. They also concern about the next coming election. or maybe all these have been preplanned already that the govt will step out to stop the implementation last minute, then we all think, 'wah, the govt so good, really helping the rakyat' . But whatever it is, makes no difference to them, all those tax monies still goes back to the govt in regardless who pays!

  15. government can't profit if they reduce too much... I doubt that when they say "subsidize" they are really subsidizing.. I bet it is just lessening their own profit...
