Hold on, Son

Marvell was sitting in the sofa, reading his favorite book, Jovial was being tutored by my lovely wife, preparing him for exam and as for me I was with Marvell reading my magazine, then suddenly...........

Then suddenly, Marvell was asking something like this,"Papa, what is the meaning of "FIEND" ?" I looked at him and honestly telling him that I myself had no idea what that word was but I said this to him.......

I said "You hold on, son, Papa will check it out right away for the meaning of that word for you and at the same time I can learn too" Marvell being himself is ever so appreciative to what I would do for him.

In a jiffy, I found the meaning of "fiend" I explained to him and profusely he said "thank you " to me and even in this little gesture, I felt so happy and proud for I did not shut him off, telling him that I was reading my magazine and did not wish to be disturbed and before he hop back to his sofa he said,"Papa I appreciate you"

I guess, as a parent those little gestures are more important than giving them expensive gifts, that's my honest opinion and sometimes it is good to tell our children that we are learning too just like them.

P/S : Son, I care

  2. we should not be seen too busy when our children wants our attention. if we do they will get their attention elsewhere and that may be too late.

  8. Agreed here...My son always asked me what this word and that, I never ignored him. I explain to him with examples so he would understand better. My son at his age now, so curious in everything. This, where, what and why? I always be prepared and sometimes look thru the dictionary is good too!

  9. "Papa, I appreciate you."

That's deep, man ;) I would feel really good inside if my future son said that to me.

And ya, gifts are nothing compared to actions. Hehee.

  10. Good to learn with the children together and to have fellowship but could have some side effects when they become too dependent on you. Would suggest get him a dictionary and let him search for the meaning and allow him the privilege to share the meaning with you instead of you telling him. Same parable of giving him a fish a day vz teaching him how to fish. My 2 sen..~;).

  13. Kudos, Eugene. I find no reason for not guiding our children. Isn't it our responsibility to prepare them for their future?

I try to be attentively to my children's needs, always :)

  18. I am so happy to hear you LOVE! So touching!

My dad was different, he asked me to look into dictionary myself as he wanted me to be independent! I really appreciate that too as I was reading newspapers since 7 years old. Today I am freelancing as a copywriter for 3 advertising agencies. I came a long way.
