Never knew a dog could hurt so much

She said she'd stopped cooking for about 3 weeks now (something that she really loved to do), she said every time the name Trutimok was mentioned, tears would just trickle down her face, she said Trutimok could be the reason for them to consider moving back to Norway, she said after three years with her, she felt so empty and lonely.

Me and my lovely wife have got this couple of good friends from Norway who reside here in Penang, we would meet up for drink about every 3 months once, every time we meet up, the beautiful dog of theirs would be there. Last weekend, we met up but there was no sign of that dog..........Trutimok.
( I must agree this dog was so nice, the above picture was taken a few months back, glad i do share some feelings with Trutimok)

We knew it would be impossible for them to go out without that dog,so as my lovely wife asked about the dog, suddenly she felt kind of agitated and said," Oh no please don't ask me about it" We were equally stunned by her expression............and we saw tears in her eyes.

As we chatted along, we found out that the dog was dead,(Put to death, cos she suffered kind of like cancerous disease and our friend could not bear to see her suffer any longer, so that was the last resort)

Seriously speaking, I had a dog when i was small but i never knew that a demise of a dog could have such a painful impact on her owner, my friend and her husband lost the usual chirpiness and cheerfulness and it was really like the end of the world for them.

She said, every night when she went on to bed to sleep, she would cry cos the dog would sleep with them, every time she woke up, she would cry too cos the dog would like cuddling up to them.

Be strong my friend,, Turid and Sidmon

Note : Any doggy experience to share?

P/S : Detachment is painful when the attachment is strong

  3. If you have a dog, you will most likely outlive it; to get a dog is to open yourself to profound joy and, prospectively, to equally profound sadness.

  4. well i guess it's just like a family member to them, time will heal the sadness.. :)

  5. Echo [SK] that time will heal..heard this from a monk who admonishes 'pain & suffering 痛苦 *tòngkǔ* is to accept death. He says once we learn to ACCEPT it we have the pain 痛tòng but not the suffering 苦kǔ. Pain is just a short moment but suffering can be for years maybe forever.

  7. My neighbors are young childless couple with 3 dogs staying inside the house. Sometimes I could hear the dedicated housewife shouting,"Girl GIRL!!! Why you sh sh here again!!??!!" She even bought an inflatable swimming pool for them. Better life than a lot of kids out there...
My kids may think being dogs is better... can enjoy swimming without having to worry about unfinished school work :-)

  8. Oh, I heard of incidents like this too.. many of my friends who have lost their dogs will not want to rear another one again.. cos the hurt is too deep, they told me.. some were with them for nine or ten years, so it is like a member of the family.. now i also worry about my own dog.. she is also like part of the family..

  10. regardless a dog, cat, bird...whatever pet one have...their death is like losing a friend, a family member.

I used to have a dog before. Been took care of him since he was born and 3 years later he died right in front of my eyes, being ran over by a lorry when he was out chasing his mother for a walk...and i never had a dog since. it's been 15 years now.

I cried when my pet cat died slowly in my arms in the vet due to disease, and grieved when the other cats I rescued couldn't make it.

When you welcomed a pet into your life, losing them leaves a deep hollow in your heart that could never be replaced.

  13. Dogs are the most loyal friends to humans. Experienced it, unless you rear it yourself and play and u.stand the dog's language well. If not human beings will just treat the dogs as nthg more than an ordinary insect not animal.

  17. eugene,

humans can actually have bonds with dogs. I had a German Shepherd and I loved her so much. But due to our time and space constraint, I had to let her go to a new owner whom, I believed could give her better love, care and home.

But, until today, my wife and I will just feel sad when we talked about her. We still keep her photo in our living room eventhough she's not with us for 6 years already.

    Have a nice day.

  19. when Rex (a mini pinscher) died many many years ago, me, my mom and my sis cried like a baby. My dad carried the body and buried it in the compound in our old house. Now I hope Conan (a shihtzu) will have a long life with us :)

Hope your friend will be able to get over her sorrow soon and get a new pet perhaps?

  20. losing a beloved pet is like losing a child. i've gone through it myself many times, and whenever it happens, it still hurt so badly.

  21. My family has a toy poodle, and I tell you bro, my parents really love her to bits! I guess dogs have this ability to really make us attached to them

  22. I can't even imagine loosing our Zoewe..She has become so much part of our family that I don't think we are at all prepared if and when she `goes'...Dare not even think how my wifey would react to that.....and yes...a dog who has grown to become part of our family will have that profound effect on us....
