Lunch break

I was having lunch with my Jovial yesterday, i've always liked this moment of having lunch with him, the time we talk like friends, the time i teach him a little here and there about life, the time i admit to him my weaknesses, my flaws and my shortcomings as a husband, a father and a man.

There we were, in the midst of our lunch, my Jovial was asking me about AIDS, he wanted to know what AIDS was about. I explained to him what it was, how did one contract it and i was sharing with him about how dangerous it was for a teen to get involved in unsafe sex and multple sex.

He knew what safe sex for he knew what condom was but he did not know what multiple sex was all about, he wanted me to explaine, before i could explaine further to him, i asked him a question such like this," Jovial, besides mommy, can papa have sex with another women ?' adamantly he said no, then i explained to him multiple sex meaning that i was having sex with more than one partner than i am supposed to and that's very dangerous.

We were talking about how bad things sometimes can be seemed ok to indulge in, such as sex and how they thought it was ok to have sex without the responsibility that came with it.

You might think i am crazy sharing all this with my son, but i bet to differ, as far as i am concerned i rather be open to him about his curiousity and telling him myself than exposed him to be taught wrongly by others. (There had been times i told my sons that i would sometimes do whatever that would leave them some good memories for them to remember about the childhood, like this one, shaving bald together...........................)

P/S : Sharing the truth is sublimity

  1. i like it your keep your view open and shares it with your son. some parents find it a taboo. i find it healthy.

btw, everytime i read abt jovial i kept feeling he is one hell of a happy go lucky kid. thus making me smile each time :D

  9. Your son's growing up... It's good that you two can talk about it openly...instead of him hearing all kinds of distorted stuff from friends...

  10. It is right to start young and be opened for any doubt in children, otherwise they will get more curious and try to find out more themselves.

  12. It's good that Jovial is getting the information from you, not from "other" sources.

U should have included that HIV can be transmitted by drug sharing needles.

    He's gonna grow up find.

  14. Father son bonding.. yes, great.. as they grow up, sons normally are uncomfortable talking to their fathers, but if u start from young, perhaps it will be different. let me know next time when he is 16 or 17.. :)

  17. Yup, definitely better to get the facts straight from dad than from other "unreliable" sources. It's really important to hv such open communication with our kids. Way to go!
