1)My son's friend told me this incident when he tried to ask his teacher a school work question, and the teacher reply was this," after school, please ask your tuition teacher, i still got a few more chapters to cover, ok?"
Ok, I am not generalizing that all teachers are like this, but for those teachers who are like this, my question is, " why are you like this?"
2)I sat down with my wonderful son Jovial last night, guiding, motiviating and teaching him on his school works, suddenly he shared this "true life story" with me,," papa, i have 2 friends in my class, this morning both were busy distributing their tuition centre brochures, coaxing many of my classmates to join their tuition centres respectively." i asked him why were they doing this, i was so surprised to hear his answer," Papa, my friends told me if they managed to introduce their friends to their tuition classes, they will get commission of RM 10 for one successful registration. or they will have their tuition fees deducted from the corresponding months."
Ok again, if the so called tuition centres are good, why do they resort to such a gimmick?
I was so happy when my Jovial told me that he didn't want to join any tuition classes and he wanted to prove to his friends that he can fare even better than his peers who attend tuition classes.
3) Picking my wonderful lil one Marvell back from his school yesterday, on the way in the car he asked me a question that really blew my mind, so he asked, " Papa, people call me Marvell, and my full name is Marvell Ung Wew, then papa can you please tell me what is Jesus full name ?" and i was dumb struck................... (My current book on my coffee table, Jeffrey Archer's A Prisoner of Birth, damn it is so good, it's like panacea for my stress. A must read if you like suspense)
P/S : Everyday a little joy, a little frustration and a little surprises here and there and that's LIFE

wah... tuition tuition tuition... i hate tuition. hehehe
ReplyDeleteif pay attention during school and come back to home do revision, i think tuition is not nessacery.
but... it helps to reduce the burden of kids gua... they manage to give all the tips of the exams because they are the teacher of the school.
I only did my tuition in Form 4 and Form 5 coz the school don't have enough teacher for the subject I want to take in SPM! NO way I am going tuition if the teachers are good...
ReplyDeletei oso join tuition classes oso but they are not so enterprising like now = = just small classes that really aim at making u better and not making tonnes of money
ReplyDeleteeven teachers are doing "part-time" teaching tuition. Guess money not enough la.
ReplyDeleteThen so many tuition centre popping-up. It's not surprising that theyuse underhand tactics to get more students
horrible ya... such a desperate gimmick, some more give their kids commission... apa lah!
ReplyDeleteur boys are so funny u know, really keeps u on ur toes!
hahahahahahahaha so cute Marvell.. maybe u can say Jesus son of Mary and Joseph? or Jesus Christ....
ReplyDeleteFull name.. Jesus Christ! hahaha.. and many more names.. The Alpha and the Omega, Abba Father, Jehovah...
ReplyDeleteabout the tuition, got like that one.. ? commission pulak.. 1st time i heard of it! :p
Seemed like tuition centres are "aggressively" marketing themselves..through its student get a student kind of program.
ReplyDeleteP/S : Everyday a little joy, a little frustration and a little surprises here and there and thAT'S LIFE
ReplyDeleteI like the above sentence :-)
school teachers are asking their students to rely on tuition teachers? So... Malaysia public education is no longer free...
ReplyDeleteHi Eugene...
ReplyDelete1. Teachers are pressed for time, and they've to finish the syllabus or else students will not be able to answer the exam questions. Maybe they're frustrated too because of overburden.
2. Running a tuition centre is big business nowadays, and like all other businesses, there will be marketing gimmicks. One day, your son may go home with a membership card application form :)
3. Jesus full name? How about Jesus Christ? But seriously, nobody knows. :)
my son got quite a commissions just introducing new students - it's a regular practices almost every way lah
ReplyDeleteyour children's names are gorgeous! haha...
ReplyDeleteas for tuition.. lol.. never send children to a centre. it is just a waste of time. if it's a small group in a real teacher's home with a real teacher, then i condone it. otherwise, the main agenda is money and they will not stop at any trick.
tuition IS big business. some of the biggest houses in my heighbourhood are owned by govt school teachers.
ReplyDeleteafter this book, try Paths of Glory - i guarantee it'll blow your mind!
hey I like your children's names and they are so cute.
ReplyDeleteI guess tuition will substitute school very soon. Students and parents trust tuition teachers more than school teachers.
ReplyDeleteI guess sometimes some question is hard to answer.
lol!!! Forget about the school and tuition thingy, they are all corrupted!
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed with 2 wonderful kids, you are such a lucky guy! God bless!
Jesus have no full name, as far as I'm concern... just like the royal family in England. The have no surname.
ReplyDeleteJesus, however, is often referred to as Jesus of Nazareth.
*grumbles* Not all tuition are corrupted. I teach 'tuition' too, but I dun teach academical subject. I teach Creative Writing to children to cultivate their imagination and make their brain goes sharper... and I don't make my classes in big scales. Only 3 kids per class so that i can interact with them well.
ReplyDelete=.= It is unfair to say that all tuition teachers are just whoring for money. Some of them do it for the sake of passion and for the satisfaction that they manage to teach the kids to become a better person.
i think tuition centers are just another money making place, and kids don't really learn much from there. your boy is wise to choose self study! well done!
ReplyDeleteBad teacher and bad tuition teacher; but your sons, they are very bright!
ReplyDeleteI really had to thank my ADD maths tuition teacher. If I did not attend, my maths will sink to the bottom. haha....but your boy's friend's tuition center are too much.
ReplyDeletegone were the days when teacher stayed back to help students cope with school work free of charge plus giving us extra classes so that we pass our SPM with flying colour, or with colour if it unable to fly.
ReplyDeletemiss you ms. Foo & Ms. Hew of CHS. Best teacher!!
