It is not the end of the world lah.........

So it was a SPM "D " day last Wednesday, I was with a group of parents (at Jovial school), it was interesting enough hearing those conversation exchanged amongst the parents.

I am not interested to share on those parents trumpeting on how many "A"s their sons or daughters got but one thing got my attention from one particular parent, after all the fanfare of who got how may As and what not, she was kind of feeling "ashamed" with the scene, then she told me that " die lah, I thought my son could at least do so so but the result really shows the otherwise" I didn't ask her about the result, instead I asked her why she said "die lah"

She said, probably her son could not ascend to lower sixth and if he wanted to go to college, she said she just could not afford it so she was worried about her son's future. I then told her, it was not the end of the world lah, there sure to be something that her son is capable of excelling in... she said hoped so.. Ditto.

Note 1) Parent will never stop worrying
Note 2) As parents, are we just interested in our children academically, lest we care so much of their others passion and dreams?
Note 3) Are our children really getting smarter (just look at those who so scored so many As) or is it that our education level is getting lower?

I still remembered one old old man told me, don't be bothered by your children's academic results. The most important is the attitude. As long as he is on the right path, it's alright. Don't worry.

  4. Eugene, do you still have the lady's contact? Get her to contact PSDC and ask for WTTP program. Its 100% funded program, no need to pay any fees. And the companies will absorb after training end (provided good attitude).

If she is in Selangor, she can come to my centre.

  5. I'd say the education level is getting lower and I simply cannot understand parents obsession with their kids getting dozens of 'A's.

  6. At the end of the day, it is who the individual is - the right attitude, the positive mentality...that will determine how successful he/she will be.

Doting, overbearing, over-anxious parents may do more harm than good - I think there's a good article in The Star today on "kancheong parents"... Everyone should read.

"...The term ‘helicopter parent’ refers to such behaviour, parents who constantly hover around and micro-manage their children’s professional lives.

They need to realise that the more they protect individuals from making decisions (good or bad), the less willing they will be to possess decision-making capacities in the future, possibly stunting their children’s development as a whole..."

  12. Yes, so many As now.
Anyway, I would think, if not doing well in exam, the person must realise what was going wrong, and try to find a solution that work out for both child and parents. Getting upset after the exam is useless.

    1. I think the fundamental is parents should always encourage the children and to hear them out,(finding their problems and helping them along the way) therefore I agree with Yan

  13. Actually many said nowadays students are clever in "Exam". They know the trick where to score, furthermore those info from TV, newspaper, FB actually helps a lot too. Although they pass the exam flying color, but the attitude somehow rather sad.

    1. So now we know, technology does make the children smarter,,, we also agree that we need more character building than scoring As techniques

  14. Note 1) Parents are forever parents, regardless the age of their children.
Note 2) I stress more on attitude and behaviour. What's the point of scoring all A's when my children have no manners with less-likeable attitude? Gee, nobody like spoilt child in the working world.
    Note 3) I'm pondering too.....

  17. I think the quality of today education is different... So many boast about getting straight As but just look at their EQ, all used to being spoon fed and no character building. My friends running a recruitment agency is so disillusioned about interviewing so many graduates who expect high pay, no work or easy work, big company, allowances, and yet they themselves cannot speak a sentence in english without grammatical error. What is so academic then?

  18. The most important thing to teach kids I think is there is no short cut and there is no free lunch. eveything has to be earned.

..Or teach them to be Taib or Najib's cronies and invest in cow condos.

Eugene, regarding FB ..I don't use Facebook lah.

  19. Sorry KG,,,, my boys say they rather live poorly than unrighteously therefore cow condos, Taib and Najib is out of their plans hahahahahhaah

  20. just yesterday there was this news report where a father made his daughter beg as her result was not good enough. It's the parental and peer pressure that burdens the child so much. If only parents will understand this.
