To condom or not?

As I was waiting to pick Jovial up from school today, to while away my waiting, I would mingle with those parents doing the same like I do but today it was kind of different, when what I saw and what I heard, piqued my curiousness and my concern.

There was this couple on a motorbike, have seen the girl before (last year still donning the pinafore but she looked different today, with the tummy a little bulging out. When they have sped off, I asked one of the parents whether or not this boy or girl were still studying, to my surprise, I was told, the girl got impregnated by the boy and both were expelled, she's 16, he's 17. (I guess they were happy to be young parent, seeing them so happy and chatty)

They say, time has changed, children mature faster than we expect them to be and with the onslaught of internet, they are being bombarded and inundated with "sex",the good and the bad of it but most of often the bad of it supersedes the good.

I remember just last week, I was talking to Marvell's former teacher and what she told me was something I felt really interesting, she said when her boy reached the age of 17, she would even prepare her boy with "condoms" when she found out that if he had a girlfriend already, just to prevent "the accident"

Many of my friends had been saying the same to me too that we should talk to our boys of the use of condoms when they reach the age of "sexablity", what do you think, folks?

You know last week, I was talking to a dear friend's son,(age 15) I was talking to him about the BGR (boy and girl relationship) I asked him if one day if his girlfriend asked him to have sex with him (okay he has got a girlfriend already),would he do it, he said he didn't lnow,as I probed, he said he would but he was afraid of the "accident" then I said what if he had the excess to condoms, would he do it, he said he would. Ditto.

I am keeping my finger cross cos my time will come and I hope and pray that those "lessons" that I have shared with my boys about "sex" will reap the good sides of it.

It is good to teach our children the ways of the LORD

P/S : Teach now or regret later

  1. if u are reminding them to wear condom, means u approval them to have sex!!! The best is to get them rooted in the Word of God and very good upbringing. Having so said, u know..temptations are there. So best, if we can talk to them n make them understand

  3. If can of coz I dun allow my kids to have sex b4 married. But nowadays how to force the kids to follow exactly what we say. Hmm I will tell them the usage of condom and how to protect themselves especially girl. Some dun use condom but after that scare to get pregnant and pop in after morning pill. Different from birth control pill it is much stronger. They pop in like candy even over dosage and ruin their cycle and health. sad to hear that

  4. Sigh....sad, but true. I am more worrying than you, Eugene. Mine is 2 girls, you are 2 boys. If really happen, you gain grand kids and expand Ung's family. Imagine, what's gonna happen on mine. So, condom or not, not really a big matter for you.

  5. Most important is education just like littlelamb said. Tell them the truth what will happened and let them understand the sequences.

condom is the worst and last stage.. to use.. If can please avoid sex if u're not ready.. for any commitment

  6. Prevention is better than cure!Encouraging to wear condoms is to have a sense of responsibility.

  7. I no need to worry so much for many years as both kids are young! :p But once they are in their teens, I would teach them about "prevention" and "contraception".

  13. I agree with LittleLamb....parents providing condom means they approve to letting them have sex even if it's premarital sex....which I think reflects the falling moral of nowadays people. Yes, it's good to play safe, but it;s also like telling the kids that it's OK to have premarital sex with the condom on.

  14. we cant shove what we believe is true down the throat of our children nowadays and human desire for sex is inevitable because of our hormones, but what we can do is to educate our children about the pros and cons of sex before marriage, the consequences and what might be the worse scenarios.

We have a pastor from taiwan during valentine's day and taught us about sex. I'll share that soon in room8five =)

  16. The end of innocence... sigh. Kids these days dont mature faster, in my opinion, just that theyre greatly curious and with easy access to information, that just adds fuel to the flame. Sigh ... I hope when your day comes to explain to Jovial, you wud keep calm and be bold. Amen.
