Sometimes I really wish smartphones were never invented and there were no such things as of broadband, dataplan or internet on the move, simply because all these good stuffs have made us talked less, human touch can be made a luxury instead of free for all and the family ties are getting weaker day by day.
It is more than a normal scene in any restaurants,if are sure to see adults busy touching the smartphones, children are no exception while waiting for the to be served, this is rather evident when that table is consisted of family members, they don't talk much over the meals or even while waiting for the foods to be served,I am sure you can agree with me and it happens to me too.
I know it is bad or if it not bad enough until the family bonding is eroded by the non stop of internet surfing by the adults or the on line games by the children,my family is no exception too. so a month or so ago I decided to do this and all of them agreed.
Every last Sunday of the month, it shall be a non internet day for the entire family and I hope I can stick to it and pray that the children will sing to the gallery too.
P/S : We need more human touch or not loads of tech touch
Good idea! Hope it works... family bonding is important..
ReplyDeleteI beg to differ, Eugene. It is not the advent of technology to be blamed but rather the people. The family can all decide to leave gadgets out of the dining table be it at home or at a restaurant. Just like charity, education begins at home. No? My two cents.
ReplyDeleteThere must be a limit and some control.
ReplyDeleteI ask my students - what is 20% or 25...and they all took out their electronic calculator. Could not give me the answer without it - that's the kind of young people we have today...and now that we have advanced to more and more sophisticated gadgets, it is more a bane than a boon!
Parents pay for internet connection for their kids - you think they use it for research and for their school projects (they just copy from their friends...and they call it working smart) and their studies - dream on! Over the years as a teacher, I've seen it all... Can't understand why parents are so blind not to see it...or they just do not care...or they simply spoil their kids rotten!
HappySurfer your 2 sen is worth more than a million haha. True its not the gadget but the people. One day a month without internet for a 14 year old teenager is like 100 days and that one Sunday would make it an unwelcome & unbearable day. Think the keyword is quality and productive time together and not a whole day you look at me and I look at you. Good try & good luck.
ReplyDeleteNo internet day? Aiyooo, my kids will slaughter me la ... hahaha!
ReplyDeleteBut I agree, people are more engrossed with their smartphones, ipads, etc, etc, these days ...
Technology is good, but we should not be too caught up with it until we neglect our family. Agreed. But on the other hand it does provide a link for us when we were separated far apart.
ReplyDeletejust set some time for family time..
ReplyDeletei see parents..father and mother each carrying an ipad and the son paying games on the phone..is that the trend??
ReplyDeleteshould make a trip got climbing or walking! still later will bring out smartphone and foursquare it LMAO . . .
ReplyDeletechill mate! peace
agree with you, eugene. I hate to see those ppl keep on looking at the phone when having dinner/meal with family. No point doing a gathering like this.
ReplyDeleteI second you. Though I always keep my phone on silent mode when I go out with family and friends and take very selected calls. People have forgotten the value and importance of human touch and physical presence. Virtual world seems to have taken up all our interest and presence!
