My prodigy son?

I was sharing with my friend about my lil Marvell, whom will be going for a 3 days and 2 night camp away from home beginning next Monday. The reason for the camp was because Marvell was picked to represent the school for the so called ," World Mathematic " evaluation program.

I was told by his teacher,if he passed the evaluation, he could be chosen for the state and thereafter, blah blah blah................

I was surprised by my friend's remark when he said that my son could have the qualities of being a child prodigy....... I know Marvell has got "talents" he is good in his studies,he is good in languages, he is good in general knowledge, he is good in science and math too but to qualify him as a child prodigy, I tend not to concede.

So,my friend advised me to take him for some tests,(he claimed that there were tests to determine if a child has got high IQ thus qualifying him to be a child prodigy) I said no lah, then my friend asked why that i refused, then I said to him this,

I rather let him enjoy his childhood for I believe he only has one childhood to live with,if he misses the joy of being a child, then he might not get the chance to relive his childhood again, I rather want him to be happy, to be cheeky at the same time enjoying his studies. My friend then said I crazy, I said never mind lah.....................

Have a great weekend and God bless..................Test or no test...Marvell is already my child prodigy

P/S : There are things you can't relive for the second time, childhood is one of them.

  3. Good for you! Don't destroy his childhood. Otherwise, you may end up with a HUGE problem in your hands. As always, PULL, don't PUSH!

  4. Wow! Your Marvell is Marvelous!
I'm sure he has a very high IQ (you & your wife good gene). I think there's no harm to let him take the MENSA intelligence test. Being such a smart boy, he may enjoy it. It don't think it will affect his happy childhood, especially he has such loving and sensible parents.

We should enjoy the moment cause once its passed... nothing we can do to tune back the hands of time.

Unless its his dream... then I think he should be allow to be what he want... hmmm

  7. What tests do they impose on these child prodigies? Are they tough? Maybe you can enquire more first or discuss with your son?

  8. Agree with you completely on that. To know the child's limits, one might tend to push them harder which eventually breaks the child. It's better to let them make their lives and help them the best we can.

  9. It's not too late to discover Marvel genious, have him to sit the Mensa test to be sure. On the other hand, let him discover his own talent, if you are not comfortable with the test.

You should know what's best for Marvel.

  13. Well, you did the right thing bro. Some children just devote their life in academic excellence and ended up depressed. Studies is important but there are flowers to smell too!
