WILL i write .................................

This morning, my lovely wife posted a news of her friend demise on Facebook who died suddenly, age 40,survived by a wife and 3 girls......Usually when I hear of such a news, i would pause and sigh "God, life indeed is temporal" but this morning i had another feeling......................

Just the other day, i asked my wife to call up her sister,if she was willing to be the guardian or they call it in legal term Trustee, entrusting to safe keeping our so called "treasures" to take care of my boys in the event of our( me and my lovely wife) untimely "kicking the bucket"

I am sure it is not a taboo or ominous to mention the word "WILL" anymore, on the other hand i think it is imperative to do so if we truly love our family, don't you think so?

Now i am counting how much i have got............ 1 cent, 2 cents, 3 cents.....

Note : This is kind of like an impromptu post

P/S : Sometimes to live is not solely about ourselves alone..........

  3. My hubby and I had written our will about 3 years ago. It is quite a detailed one, in which we spelt out the guardian, and even monthly expenses for our kids etc. The funny thing is, after the will was done, I can have peace of mind going for vacation with my hubby :-)

  4. Writing a will is a must for anyone with a family. I will definitely get one sorted soon for my baby girl so I know her future will be secured in any event.

  6. I think it's a good idea to write a Will. I was talking to my wife yesterday and she asked me in case anything happened to me, what happened to my little investments in sg. Would it belongs to sg govt? I jokingly tell her if that's the case, I write a Will for my humble saving.LOL

  9. When someone talks about Will it connects to death that's why some are not talking about it. Bananaz has no qualms over 'death' as I practically grew up seeing a coffin *the old huge Chinese traditional ones* in our house which was for my grandpa who was quite young then and left us at age 84. Old folks believe its a 'good omen' and my Papa has even done up his burial lot when he was 50 and the coffin for himself and lived till 92. Its quite normal to put your affairs in order while one is alive, there is nothing to pantang about. I have done up my Will plus the funeral arrangements. Life is impermanent and death is certain. My 2 sen..~;).

  12. Eugene,
Death is no respecter of person. It will come when you least expected. No it is not taboo to talk or event to prepare you will. Better have one, at least your family will not suffer. I have read of stories of those who's family members died without a will and have to faced alot of hussle especially government agencies. they wont make it any easier for you. I had mine done with rockwill, which is very well organised and every year I get a reminder,in case i should loose my memory, there is a reference.

  14. It's good to have WILL especially those have many assets and family members keke. It will smoother and shorten the process of probate granted.

  16. You know what, Eugene, I also have this feeling that I need to stand by now (i mean "now") in case of anything for my 2 young children. It is not longer the trend where in the past, when you getting older, you do this will and trust.

Like you said, life is temporal. We never know what is going to happen tomorrow.

  17. I've been procrastinating to get my will written, which I think I shouldn't have. Thanks for the reminder, Eugene.

Tomorrow is a mystery. Life is unpredictable.

  18. I haven't thought of this so far, but I am a very intuitive person. It is good that I never thought of it. I will get the will done when my intuition arrives.

  19. Yuin Ting: It's not advise to set a amount for guardian to draw monthly. If you wish, please add in the interest rate and inflation rate factor. Or else it may affect your kids education. If its for education purposes, please also add in education inflation is about 6%-8% p.a. Current interest rate is about 3% - 10% depending on your saving vehicle, and the inflation may be 3-5%.

Eugene: Think carefully before you draft your will, think of most suitable person that will have love to children than everything else. Appoint an good trustee, executor, guardian, beneficiary. Think of that person that can carry your will at least until your children are independent (may be age 24 after U study?)

Like what I told your friend Ting, if you were to set aside an fixed monthly amount, make sure you add in ROI, inflation so that the money in future will worst the money in today's value. This is to avoid the monthly shortage or else it will create lots problems. If you let the guardian have the lump sum provided he/ she can be trust. You and your wife may appoint a different guardian to suit you all most. In my case I appoint my mum and my sister, in his will he appoint his mum and his sister. So in case in my demise, he ofcoz the guardian and my mum and my sister will come into picture. In case he remarried than my mum and my sister have the right on my kids if the women he married may not want to take care my kids. It works also same for his will for his demise, so we are "fang xin" in this way. I created my will in 2001 and changed it 2005. Don't need to specific the amount for guardian also ok just let the guardian claim based on the expenses of the children is the best and not create a trouble to the guardian. The guardian can be paid or not paid...........tbc

  20. STP: thanks for the intro more than happy to share with what I know strictly no obligation can email me. Yes you are partially right if the wife is the only person. If not she would get 25%, mom & dad *of deceased* 25% and children 50%.

  24. Bro, I also have to write my will... it's looonngggg time outstanding... now we put it on the white board on to-do list as top priority. The reason why we delayed so long was becoz dunno who to pick as our children's guardian... the kids cannot be separated and there is NO ONE suitable : (
