I was reading this horrendous and absurd news here about how a husband intended to divorce his wife and leaving the children all because on the advice of a medium insinuated that his wife was the devil in disguise that might one day kill him.........
A few years ago, a good friend of mine ended his marriage all because his wife was abstaining herself from him as far as sex was concerned, when she began to fervently attending a so called "religious teaching" that propagates purity, so sex to them was something defiling . Now my friend is happily married.
Another friend of mine, spent a few hundred dollars buying a pendant (to me it should not cost more than 50) when he was advised by a modern, suave, clean cut looking master and the best part was the master guaranteed him that he would be able to find his soul mate within a year's time and it has been three years now, he is still Ya Chek Kong (single)
Finally, another friend who is involved in another type of temple activity and this friend eventually was ascended to some kind of assistant to the temple abbot. What surprised most is how my friend would put the abbot's request higher than the rest even including his family, for example, if the abbot were to call him to pick him at anytime of the day, he would leave everything he is doing and just do it for him even if he is in the middle of a meal with his family.
Even for me as a Christian, i won't simply believe all the sermons that are preached behind the pulpit by the pastors, you can call me anything you like but i strongly believe that those pastors are just like you and me, mere human, they can be overruled by their own interest, seeking own glory and sometimes preaching only what they themselves think is perfect.
It is sad, ain't it? How sometimes we lose own wisdom to believing such fallacy, we seek man's councils without challenging it. Funny, ain't it?
What is the weirdest so called religious antics you ever heard of?
Great weekend...............
P/S : When we have our heart's desires in check, most of the times, we would be fine
Well, just look at histroy, and in our little country; religions and politics are the best tools to control the masses.
ReplyDeletePolitical leaders love those who fear Gods as they are easier to control and manipulate than the agnostics and athetists.
*swt, this is like those kena bomoh thing or brainwashing. *swt.
ReplyDeleteReligous?? It depend on you..no comment.
ReplyDeleteOoops.... regarding my previous comment,I don't mean the intelligent and good muslim, christian or buddhists readers here are easy to be manipulated. I was refering to those akin to Eugene's friend who believe $100 pendants can buy some loves.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day, it's all between you and God...and never mind what others say or believe, pray for guidance from above...and your faith will see you through.
ReplyDeleteNo good works can buy our way to heaven... nor riches... just believe in God, talk to Him and trust in Him in all undertakings.. have faith, as STP said.. it depends on how much we want to..
ReplyDeleteShame to say that I'm not very religious, hence seldom encounter those scenario mentioned.
ReplyDeleteBut I've just received a flyer yesterday promoting a powerful medium who can turn someone's luck and strike lottery. Haha, if only it's so easy, then there would be no poor people in the world.
Kuching Guy,,, totally agree with you,you manage their belief, you manage their lives...
ReplyDeleteMas : Ya lor
Claire and STP : True,it is between us and god,,,,
Yvonne : If he can help us stike number then he can be Bill Gates lol,,,,
To err is human, that's all I can say but please bear in mind that there are many scammers out there hunting for your money, so becareful..
ReplyDeleteI am a devoted Christian but I am not saying that I live like a saint. Its up to yourself how to define religious...
ReplyDeleteI believe in God and I also believe that what you give, you get back...
i would agree, it's always good to double check what you have heard and read, as advised in the bible. :)
ReplyDeleteJust don't follow it blindly, we need to judge by own wisdom.
ReplyDeleteActually this thing, I think just depends on how you think only..(见仁见智)
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great day Eugene~
Always have a discernment spirit to know the right teaching and some common sense too!
ReplyDeleteSame like you, I believe they are just mere human being. My late aunt lost her life because she chose to see a medium instead of a doctor when she was not feeling well. She fainted at the medium's house and by the time being rushed to the hosp, she was gone. sad
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with you... and, first thing first get into a mainstream right church, then watch the crowd and watch the pastor. Then digest the sermon with a pinch of salt. You are right that men are still human, eventho men of God. That's why it's good to pray for our pastors to deliver the right message.
ReplyDeleteOn the part of your friends, it's sad to hear, yet alone know people who fall victim to such blasphemy. But God loves them, no matter what.
These 'masters' have certain charisma that can hypnotise or convince people to do all sorts of things for them.
ReplyDeleteChurches can be---and often are---wonderful places to further one's spiritual growth. However, I always keep in mind that the church is run by fallible human beings.
ReplyDeleteIn the end, one's faith is strictly between him and God.
Great post!---I am now following you. You are invited to follow me.
Quite a thought provoking post, bro. Just pray to God and let the Holy Spirit guide you onwards.
ReplyDeleteWas intrigued by your preface... lol! Frankly speaking, if only people were contented being(lust, fame and material wise) and moderator, I reckon none of what you mentioned will happen!>_<
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend!
Very well said! Bold and without fear or favor. Echo your words on pastors being just as humans. Heard of a group of people left for another church because they can't tolerate the pastor's way of discrimination and condemnation. Well at the least they have their own wisdom to choose and the choice is theirs like mine a free thinker. Attended Church once on an invitation by a friend and was very comfortable with this pastor. We all know CNY 9th day the Hokkiens celebrate their 'pai ti kong & New Year' and this pastor just joke about it saying it sounded like in war zone with the blast of fire crackers all nite long. I was expecting the very worst from him but he respected the Chinese culture and no words of displeasure uttered at all.
ReplyDeletemy friend a buddhist spent few thousand believing this lady that he will be prosperous and will get a girl friend. 3 yrs has gone, he is still the same YET he still trust her.argh...
