I thought he was joking......

My lil one Marvell since small by nature has got this strong penchant for reading, he just loves to read.He not only just reads, the funny thing is he always remembers what he has read and sometimes his general knowledge( i guess from his reading) would just put me to shame.

I remember vividly when he was in primarily two,as soon as he came back from the child care center, he would run straight to the book shelve and grab a book and lay himself on the bed and start to read. When he ran out of reading material, he would then scout for his brother's text books which were four levels higher. (textbooks are not Enid Brython leh)

Surprising enough even the text books of his brother's would attract him as much as other leisure reading materials, his reading interest mostly is in science, origami, a little here and there about history.

Just the other day, once again he had got nothing left to read and he was asking me,"papa, i've got no more books to read already" then jokingly i pointed out to one book by Mitch Abom's "For One More Day" and told him to grab it and read.

He was reluctant to do it because he taught that it was an adult material but i told him that i would sit besides him and accompany to read while i read mine.

Immediately,he fell in love with Mitch Abom's "For One More Day" i thought he was joking when he said that he loved to read it (after all this ain't comic, this ain't Wimpy kid, this ain't Genorimo Stillton), i was not convinced then i asked him to share with me what he'd read and i was amazed that in actual fact he knew what he was reading.

Caught him reading Mitch Abom's "For One More Day" yesterday
Yesterday, curiously i asked Marvell if he would be interested to read other books of Mitch Abom's after has done reading the first one, such as " Have A Little Faith", "Tuesdays With Morris" and " Four People You Meet In Heaven" , excitingly he nodded . Thank God i have got all these books stored in my book shelve.

Thank God for my wonderful family, My Lovely wife, My two wonderful sons, Jovial (now 13) and Marvel (Now 9)l....

Have a great weekend guys and see you on Monday

P/S : The seed of talent needs to be cultivated and not just lay by the wayside

  4. "Tuesdays with Morrie" is my favourite... Real touching. Reading is a good habit - Melissa reads a lot, and spends mostly on books - not much else.

  11. Wow, that's impressive for a 9-yr-old! At 9 years old, I was still reading Enid Blyton. And at 10 and 11, I tried reading unabridged adult novels (Little Women by Louisa May Alcott), I could only understand the 1st chapter and then after that I was lost already! Not just that, becos read cannot understand, I ended up crying in frustration! LOL! Wow, your son is good!
