I Cried............

I was on the way sending my Jovial back from school just now and i cried, my Jovial asked me why i cried in the car. So the story goes..................

I hardly listen to Mandarin radio channel, but it was a sudden spur of the moment when i hit the dial to station 988, it was not a normal broadcast today, it was special because that particular programme preempted the usual slot, it was a programme dedicated to a teacher and five students whose lives were tragically taken away from a normal dragon boat pratice last Sunday.

I cried because i am a father, i could feel for the victims' parents, the agony of losing their children in such a tragic manner, their hopes dashed, their longing for the their children calling of "Papa or the mommy" can never be heard again.

I cried because i can imagine how painful it is for the victims' parents to shoulder on at least in the near future that their children are longer by their sides, especially this time around when the Chines New Year is fast approaching. The reunion will never be the same ever again for these parents, i bet.

I cried because if i were to be in the parents' shoes, i could litterally feel my whole world crumbling down on me, i would sell my own life to have my child back, and i would do whatever it takes to make miracle a reality, if that what miracle takes to come to pass.

And now i realized, there is really nothing more important than seizing times to spend with our loves ones, because we may never be too sure if we ever had that times again.

Note : FAMILY FIRST NO MATTER WHAT.

  1. It was indeed an extremely tragic accident. I happened to be strolling along Gurney Drive that evening when I saw RELA combing the coastal area with their torches. Only found out about the accident after asking one of them what was going on.

Hope they will make it mandatory to wear life-vests moving forward....

  2. Really tragic. I always tell myself that I need to spend more time with my loved ones and cherish them, and I've managed to do just that over the years. I also have learned to tell my loved ones how much I love them on a regular basis.

I suffered the fate of losing my dad when I was a child, and that pushed me to cherish the moments.

  5. This morning when i read the chinese paper, the news really make me sad. Seeing the parent crying, ask for the kids to come back home, really broke my heart.

Before i become a mummy, i don't have that kind of feeling. Now whenever i read this kind of news, i feel sad, i can feel for the parent, i always think what if i'm the one that lost the children, i don't know how to survive with it, so cherish the moment while we still can.

  9. although being in the UK, I keep myself updated everyday with the news back home on the star online and i have been following the horrible tragedy involving so many precious lives and this morning i was on the bus and i was thinking of those poor poor parents and relatives and classmates and teachers who have lost their dearly beloved.

reading your entry made me cry inside for them too. for the parents, for the teachers. I used to be a teacher in a secondary school and i know too well what kind of impact this would have on the school children and teachers. picture empty tables and seats in the classrooms where they used to be.

it was a very bizzarre and tragic incident -- two of victims who drown wore lifejackets !!?? what happened there then??

but i do think that incidents like these must not prompt parents to want to keep their children with them all the time and forbid them to take part in any form of activities just to keep them safe. children need to be given the opportunity to enjoy life, learn to grow up and leave their nests eventually. as long as the right safety precautions are adhered to at all times and also as long as one doesn't take 'life' for granted of 'life', this should not be the reason for parents to start fearing for the lives of their children at all times.

this was a tragic accident and should serve as a wake up call for the authorities to be more cautious and aware of safety measures when it comes to school activities.

  16. Yes, really sad... The lengths they go through to get fame for the school - at the expense of the safety of innocent students...and in this case, their lives!!! The parents should sue the school from top to bottom!!!

  19. I really feel for the everyone involved. The pain must be excruciating. There is nothing like family to keep you going and make your life worth living. I shall keep keep them in my prayers and hope they will find peace withing the tragedy. Easier said than done, but in times like this, you can only try to stay positive.
Thanks for sharing this Eugene. It's good to be kept up to date with news from home. X

  23. i really feel so horrible and worst after watching the video from lilian chan's. I can't place myself in the position of the parents. I think I'll just break down with no return. me and hubs are very paranoid when our little girl participates in any activities without our presence. I can only pray god to give the parents strength to live on after this unfortunate event.

  24. I can't imagine the horror the closed ones must have felt in waiting, hoping and then having to identify the bodies one by one. So sad. Just so sad. All young men with so much potential ahead for them.

  27. I know how parents feel when they loose their children. Because I almost lost mine in the fire back in 2009, Eugene. I am blessed to be able to make it alive out of the fire with my husband and son, eh?

  31. God is great, Eugene. Now with all of these happenings around us, he is telling us to cherish our young ones. I believe, this is what He is trying to tell us. We are blessed indeed, because we still have the chance to love, and be loved.
