Tell them what respect is........................

I was having lunch with my boys the other day,so as we were enjoying our lunch, I saw vaguely someone who looked like my friend, indeed was my friend.

So as soon as this friend of mine, passed me by,I called out to him, "Hey Billy" no respond, thus gingerly I called out again,"Hey Billy Tatt" This friend of my stopped, this friend of mine then walked towards me," So it is you...blah blah blah"

Usually at this juncture,my two boys would always address my friends,"auntie or uncle" but this time only Marvell called out to my friend" Hello auntie" but Jovial was just looking up to my friend and extended a smiling gesture to my friend and after much pleasantries, this friend of mine said that she had to go, so she left.

Then, Jovial began to tell me this,"Papa,I really don't know how to address your friend just now" I knew why Jovial was saying that, simply because my friend was a transgender.

So I explained to him that that friend of mine chose to me a "girl " since he was small,I shared with him that even since she was small, she had been ridiculed, all because nobody showed her the respect just because everybody thought that she was different than them, you know coming from all boys school........rebel yells lah

I then told my two boys that in whatever circumstances, they should not ridicule, tease, make fun or mock at anybody just because they are different than them. Both of them nodded and I hope they will grow up to be respectful to others.

P/S : We can be different but we are eventually the same

  1. Yes, we're all the same and must respect one another - all God's creations. Would be a lot worse - those paedophiles who look ok on the outside but not within.

  4. If in doubt maybe just utter 'hello' with a smile would be good enough and then ask dad later. That's what my late dad used to drill into us to address people when we pay a visit or meeting someone in the streets. Bananaz have seen quite a lot of youngsters who never even say 'hello' when we meet up together with their parents. To say 'hello' and 'goodbye' is a must for us since childhood days.

  6. Interesting! Your son was so funny!

I also had a classmate and former office colleague who both went for operations and proudly became gals. Years later, one met up with me at a club while I was so drunk and bragged about 'her' new genitals blah blah... I asked 'her' to show me!!!
Yes I do respect them as they are.

  8. Eugene, I like the way you teach your sons. We shouldn't discriminate anyone who doesn't do anything harmful to the sociaty.

  11. Respect is the key, Eugene, regardless who they are we ought to respect them.

Btw, why do you still call your friend "Billy"? You should have called her new feminine name :)

  12. The moment I read Marv greeted "Hello auntie", immediately I scroll up to double check your friend name - BILLY doesn't sound like girl. Ya although we won't not agreed on their decision, but we should respect for their decision.

  13. It's always good to inculcate these values early in life. Like I have always said - Your boys have a wonderful father!

  14. I once knew this guy from working in a hotel line long long ago. He was a man in the day time and a girl in the night time. Nevertheless, he-she is a very friendly person. A joker too. I wonder where is he-she now.
