Kids are still kids, please don't forget this

It kind of broke my heart when I saw the news from the TV yesterday of a 11 years old boy who plunged to his death from 14 floor, it was somewhere near my place.

Last night, while I was taking my two boys out for dinner, I purposely took a detour to that place (not that I wanted to KPC) but I wanted to share with my boys how I felt about that incident, so I told them.

"Boys, this is the place where that boy plunged to his death, you know boys, please remember that no matter what happen to you, you must always remember that you have always got your papa and mama to run to"

I've always believed that the most precious moments of one's life can never be anything but one's "childhood" and parents must remember to allow the children to grow in that sphere of childhood with loads of fun, good memories and loads of joy.

They can be mischievous, that's part of childhood, they can be naughty, that's part of childhood, they can be unreasonable at times and that's part of childhood too. We must allow them the space to be themselves, to hit the wall, to fall and get up again, to make mistakes and hold their hands and say,"son,it is okay to fall, I am here to get up again"

You know they say, the age that we are living now is a far cry from "our time" but I tend to disagree for I believe that there are times that certain things can live out the test of times and that's  "Love" and our children need a lot of this now.

As a parent, let us try not to feel that it is "not man enough" to share our pain, sadness and all other feelings with with our children. I love to always share my feelings with my boys, my frustration even my a little "secrets" here and there.

It always warms my heart when Jovial always tells me this,"papa, come and sleep with me for a while every time before he hits the bed"

Please remember this, sometimes our children can appear to be "super duper" good but we must not let that fool us,cos they still need to be understood and heard, after all kids are still kids.

  2. I heard about that news too but not in detail. Kids need our attention, most of all love & care..raising up children is a life time learning process for parents. Good share, Eugene.

  4. I saw the news report... Quickly read to check the details. Phew!!!! Not the son of anybody I know. Hehehehehe!!!! I think he stayed with the grandpa, parents divorced or father abandoned them or something - can't remember now...but if I'm not wrong, he came from a broken family.

Nothing's more important than parents' love and understanding - quality time is crucial and in this present day and age, parents' support and companionship must always be there. Sad that many parents today are too preoccupied with their work and their own social activities. Sure, more of such cases will happen - the sign of the times.

  5. I'm saddened by the news too, Eugene.

Children ought to understand that it's not the end of the world when something bad happens and they always have their papas and mamas support. Of course, as parents, we must be there for our kids, listen to them, shower them with love and not material-money stuffs only, sigh...

  7. It happened on Mother's Day. 11 years old boy, what make him have that courage. If all parents are as concern as you, this might not happen.

  8. Ive been teaching for 6 years now... Most of the reason why a student misbehaving in class is due to bad parenting... and i feel bad about this news... if only there's a very caring and responsible adult guiding him this wont happen.

  12. Yeah, kids will be kids. Unfortunately, these days, parents are too busy making a living leaving kids to fend for themselves. It's no one's fault, I believe. It's just what life has evolved into though it would be good if parents are able to spend more quality time with their children. But then again, everyone has his unique set of issues and there is no fixed yardstick to parenting.

  13. Pity the boy, I guess must be very lonely as his mom is busy. Furthermore he is from single family and granny just passed away. That why it's always good to have a sibling to grow with.
