"Have you got enough left ?" she asked

Last Sunday while I was taking my mom out for breakfast in her usual "old kampung" and as we were chatting  away, suddenly she was telling me and my lovely wife that the next day she needed to collect a piece of silver bracelet which cost about RM500 which she ordered a few days before.

I was kind of surprised why did my mom suddenly wanting to buy a silver bracelet and I asked her about it,then she said," You know this month is the 闰月"leap month of April" and if the old folks wears anything silver which is new,it shall bring forth good blessing to the children"

I know my mom's intention for buying that silver bracelet is not to show off the bling bling but as a matriarch she really wants her 'anak cucu" or off-spring to have everything good.

So the next day as I was chatting with my "older" friends about this "leap month" stuff and its correlation of bringing good fortune to one's off-spring, my friend was telling me that the onus is for the children to buy the silver jewellery and not allowing the old folks buying for themselves.

On the same day evening, I went straight up to my mom's house and handed her the RM500 for the purchase of the silver bracelet. When she received the money she asked what was it for I told her that it  was for the silver bracelet, then without second thought she asked, " You've still got enough left ?"  ( I guess she was worried that after giving her the monthly allowance, would I still have enough to fork out the extra RM500) I smiled at her telling her not  to worry and to be frank, at this juncture my eyes were a bit damp.

Suddenly I realized that my mom didn't want me to spend extra to buy her the silver bracelet but at the same time she was willing to fork out her own money to buy it cos she really wanted "the best" for her children, grand children, her great grand child, her son in laws, her daughters in laws and her grand daughter in law.

Just remember this, sometimes the doing or the actions of our old parents can be deemed as outrageous and sometimes illogical and sometimes these actions of theirs may even court our wrath, uneasiness and anger but then again if we were to dwell deeper, most often than not,it is all for "the best" of us.

Remember again, we might laugh at our parents when they tell us not to sweep the floor on the first day of Lunar Chinese New Year", remember this ?They don't do  it for themselves but rather they want to keep the "fortune" for you and me,,think about it.

P/S : They might be old but their intention is good
