Can I have more "tau yu" soya sauce, please.

I really did not know should I just snicker, laugh out loud or get very frustrated with my usual Koay Teow T;ng seller when i asked him for a little more "tau yu" or soya sauce the other day............

He replied with much sarcasm as he sneered at me in Hokkien, which I did not take offense of," You better finish the soya sauce that you asked for more, otherwise, next time I will charge you for extra soya sauce" Jokingly I shot back at him in Hokkien too," Hello, don't tell me the price of soya sauce can shoot so high until you have to ration it when your customers ask for more."

At this time,he started making fun of me already by making this statement," It looks to me that you have not been to market buying home food provisions since 1900 already or you are too rich to bother about it"I conceded my ignorance and telling that Koay Teow T'ng seller that I would do a bit of googling about his claim.

This is what I found out in Malaysia context as far as "tau yu" or soya sauce is concerned, without googling cos i stumbled upon one article in the local daily describing the below.....

In 2004,increased by 15%, 2008 another hike of 40%, in a spate of a year 2009,it escalated by extra 20%, last year 2010,up by another 20% notch and in 2011,it was reported that there would be another, you guess it right,"increase."

Now it seems to me that it is making a lot of sense and justification when i hear this murmur, complaint, whine or discontent coming from those housewives about their husbands giving them the monthly household allowance and some really have my respect for managing the household so well with the so called limited and suffocating allowance, personally I know of a few.

To the husbands therefore please do not complain that our wifey keeps cooking the same dishes....hahhahahah for it is not easy to manage the household for what else is not up.

I really hope one day, those gomen ministers can go down to the floor, feel what we feel, instead of shouting very ear pleasing slogans or ostentatious speeches telling us to austere ourselves in their expensive suits.

P/S : Money is too tight to mention, thank God I still have some to spare

  1. If it is not affordable, just live without it. Habits are made - we were not born with them. Like is fragile - cherish it. Too short to be unhappy... Always look on the bright side of things, always try to be happy - that's the least that we owe to ourselves...and when we moan and groan, the negative vibes would affect our loved ones beside us as well and would only serve to make them miserable. I'm sure you do not like people who do nothing but complain either, do you?

if simple commodity like tau yu can go up then you can expect other things will be very expensive. this does not looks good.

After moon cake, you're not gonna boycott tauyu mah? Only men can boy-cott your wifey cant. Wanna google 'girl-cott'? haha.

  7. Great post - simple is content but powerful in the message - the fact that the rakyat are fighting price hikes in almost everything except in their pay.

Take care and God bless you and yours always.

    Shalom

  12. Money is hard to come by now. Whatever we earn not enough for us to purchase, leaving each month so tight. Wish to have more to make life easier.

Imagine we have to pay for the extra "tau yu", when the day could comes could be worst.
