I thought i had taught him well..........

During my family holiday trip to Phuket,I was surprised to hear this from Jovial when i tipped the driver who shuttered us from Airport to Hotel, he said" Papa, why you love to give tips, don't they have pay already?" I then said............"

"Son,we must always have a heart for people and learn to put yourself in someone else' shoes, how would you feel if you were to be that driver, receiving tips from the guests, you would be feeling happy, right?"

As a father, i really don't want to see my boys growing up to be someone who only think for themselves "nothing wrong with that though"but when this type of "Me, Me and More Me"attitude burying the sense of compassion for others, then it would not be nice anymore.

After that so called lesson,i was glad that my boys knew that it was always nice to be a cheerful giver and have a heart or two for others.

Have a great weekend folks and leaving you with one of my all time 80s favs............"A good heart these days is hard to find....................."

P/S : Have a little heart.............

  1. But when too nice like my daughter, you really get worried...takut kena tipu! Have to be streetsmart - a bit selfish, a bit crafty...a bit everything. It's a cruel world out there...

  3. Giving tips to them means we appreciate their service and I don't oppose to it :)

We can choose to make someone's day happy too, right?

  4. Sometimes, I think like Jovial too, we already paid them fees, so it's not necessary to tip them anymore.
But then on second thought, compare to myself (who sits in the office enjoying air cond), they working as driver/bell boy/guard, might not have the same kinda treatment. So, if a little tipping would make them happier, why not? =)
    Enjoy your Friday, Eugene.

  5. I agreed with Yvonne. depending on which county we visit. some of them are very poor and they are not well paid. infact I would say they depend more on the tips to make ends meet.

  6. He has his point. If someone accepts with appreciation. it is ok. Some really rude one will say, "huh? just so little only?" behind your back, you'll regret and choose not to give at all. Or when, you don't give for certain time, they give you that "look"..

  7. Tips only when the service is good; and if in a restaurant already charge the service tax, I don't give tips anymore.

  10. Jovial had asked that qn innocently but it was a valid one. the responsibility of inculcating good values in our children lies squarely on the shoulders of the parents, & to a lesser extent, the school.

    you did good, Eugene!

  17. There's nothing difficult about being street wise. As parents, we have to educate our child as much as we can, and help them put words into practise. We can't let them on their own yet.

In recent years, kids/teen have been really too techno-savvy that they don't have any soft skills or much moral values. They learn too many things off the Internet and from their techno-savvy friends. That's the scary part. Parents have a crucial role to assist their children so that they do not go astray. You've done a great job in this area, Eugene. I take my hat off to you.

BTW, thanks for dropping by my blog. I've been MIA a long time due to emotional instability.

Drop by my language blog at http://wat4english.wordpress.com for tips on English language. :)

  19. Eugene you good lar, I don't normally tip ppl except no choice to the butler when staying in Sg hotel during cny but no tip even in restaurants because they already have 10% service charge, which is really TIPS mah.

But yea, good job in teaching jovial this, God will surely bless your generous heart. It is more blessed to give than to receive.
