I was reading Claire's blog the other day, it talked about how one was being victimized in the office, how the upper hand or the higher authority exert absurd instructions down the line which are most of the times incredulous and how anyone could get sidelined, removed or subtly put in cold storage when one was not in the favor of the boss' eyes.
That post really brought back a fragment of my life when i hit rock bottom 20 over years ago, all because i was not in the good book of my bosses', to think about it it was real tormenting to go through every single day in the office when i was not in the A list.
What did i do wrong ? nothing seriously, they sidelined me, ignored me and grind me unreasonably simply because i refused to cahoot with them as far as bribery was concerned, it was real hellish just to think about going to work, i fell into depression and was on medication because of this nonsense, finally i quit my job like Claire said "beh tahan lio".
What's the worst office victimization experience or story you have heard of and how did it end ?
I believe in God's promise, "I have done what is righteous and just, do not leave me to my oppressors."
P/S : The best integrity to me is," doing the right thing even if no one is seeing"
hahha...so far so good for me except one small experience 12 years ago where I think the boss is playing games, spreading lies...dunno for what reasons. I left in 6 mths, making it one of the shortest stint in my career.
ReplyDeleteI've been in such place about 5 years ago. Was there for 6 months. Not a single day I spent there was pleasant.
ReplyDeleteIt started with just a single comment to the work my boss did on the first week. The thing is, being in advertising, you should be able to take any kind of criticisms. He can't take it well.
It started from there. It was hell after.
I decided to leave at the end of my probation. He didn't want to confirm me anyway. Or not I would be spending another couple of months serving my notice.
I haven't experience any of that yet, as I am still green in the working world. IF it ever happened to me, I will do whats right, quit the job and move on to the better one just like what you did. I seriously hope I won't have to come across such situation >.<
ReplyDeleteThis is the so-called office politic.
ReplyDeleteMine is not resolved yet.. waiting for my boss to come back.. sigh. very sien one thinking about it..
ReplyDeletesigh. i think am somewhere at there too now. :/ being the youngest in office definitely can make ppl tot am going to take over them. :/ sien.
ReplyDeleteUr post reminds me during my 1st part time job - Err, hate that Lady boss! Hormone imbalance! Rite now, I'm still holding my first job till present since I graduated! So far so good though.
ReplyDeleteMine so far so good. Not much of bullying
ReplyDeleteHappy weeknd to you
I am pretty lucky, never get bullied throughout the 11+ years of working experiences. But not sure got people think that I bullied them or not. lol!
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I don't work in the office long enough to experience all these.. (lucky me)..
ReplyDeleteyup, we have a cold storage here in our office too, I just wish I have enough guts to walk away from here :(

ReplyDeleteHehe... I used to work as the one and only minority 'C' among the majority 'M', no matter how hard I strived for my work, none of my 'M' superior would appreciate me... but I'm lucky enough that most doctors who had worked with me and the patients who were under my care were grateful of what I have done for them! Thus, I was contended even without promotion nor seminars during my 6 years of contribution in medical line!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to rant, have a nice day!
Think positive - people ask you to do because they know you are good and they appreciate that...so you work your fingers to the bone while the others shake legs and draw the same salary or even more. At the end of the day, you get the job satisfaction...but if you feel you are being exploited, then it is time to put your foot down. If you are good, you have the bargaining power - those useless ones usually do not have that privilege.
ReplyDeleteYou are right. Stand firm for what is just and righteous. God bless you bro for not falling into office politics and sidelined values.
ReplyDeletei felt terrible... my exboss doesnt have career parth for me and you cannot do better then her either. she will surpress your needs to excel. during appraisal (mine was with 2 bosses concurrently), she said "i rate you "C" for all, the only thing that you are good is teamwork unfortunately we dont need teamwork in your line of work (which co doesnt work as a team?!?!?!). the other boss was shocked to hear that! btw, i report to 3 BOSSES concurrently and all demanded 100% delivery. and she disapprove of me disapproving her favourite vendor, i dont agree giving them additional rm10 mark-up on gift that am purchasing in hundreds of qty, she said just let it go, its ok (my god! gift agency mark-up (their margin), BUT event agency ALSO want to mark-up? no wonder the agency owner damn rich!). anyway, no one like reporting to her, sweet lady but stab you at the back.
ReplyDeleteNow may be we all should learn to be boss of our own, so that we can still keep integrity and conscience clear,,hahahha.
ReplyDeletethanks for the comments guys
