Short Message Screwed up.(SMS)

Called him up a few times last week, he didn't pick up the phone, sent him SMS, to no avail, met him in the church, he was not he usual self towards me last saturday, i did the same a few times, same treatment given to me. I was like what happened to him.

Untill two days ago, my lovely wife was asking me about what kind of SMS did i send to him, i was like why that sudden question, then my lovely wife was telling it was all because there was one particular word in the SMS that was the root cause of his nonchalance towards me, and the word was," Alzheimer"

Then i asked my lovely wife, why was that word " Alzheimer" strained our always cordial relationship, she was telling me that as his wife was telling my lovely wife that that SMS with "Alzheimeir" insinuated that my friend was an old fart and tend to forget what he said and he may have taken offense of this.

Oops, suddenly i remember very clearly about this particular SMS i sent to him during the church service and he was there too with his wife, (too bad my lovely wife was not there). I was in the Church Service last two Saturdays ago, and suddenly the pastor behind the pulpit was sharing how reading can prevent" Alzheimeir " disease, there and then my antic played a trick on me.....

You see this friend of mine who loves to read, and he really reads a lot and sometimes his penchant for reading is akin to a marathon race, non stop one. So at that point when the pastor was sharing about how "Alzheimer" can be prevented by reading, happily i sent him a SMS congratulating him that he didn't have to worry about getting "Alzhimeir" and that was really my single taught came to me at that particular time, i didn't mean anything else.

I felt kind of bad for i treasure his friendship and thought to myself,it would not cause me anything if i were to say sorry even for the fact i really felt that i did not do anything wrong as far as that SMS was conerned.

I called his wife up, explained to her my misconstrued intention, thereafter i sent him another SMS apologizing for the misunderstanding and i hope he could read between the line and in the mean time, i shall rest my case........

Q) have you ever had such an misunderstanding all because of SMS messages.

P/S : Life could be just a breeze, if we learn to take things as pinch of salt

  2. I agree with Daddy... How would people know he has that problem? Unless he knows that you know and you are poking fun at him. Should be able to see it as just a joke.

  5. Miscommunication happens all the time. *shrugs* Can't help it if people misunderstood your good intentions.

  6. I think we shouldn't say the guy overly sensitive. We do not know how he perceives the word. Don't simply judge people by thinking we're not wrong. We may hurt someone without knowing it. He may feel offended if he thought you sarcastically teasing him?

  7. Err, no misunderstanding so far. I always keep my words short and clear in SMS... that's why it's called short message service :)

  11. I learnt my lesson; not to send sms. It is better to talk or call that person directly, because people interpret message differently, although we did not mean bad. So I seldom want to sms now. :p

  12. even if talk ..people can misunderstand also :(

  19. Nope never, sent the wronged SMS to my friends.

I'm sure you had done your part by telling him. If he doesn't respond, then he's at the losing end.
