A languid old friend...........

He isn't the Mr Ong that i knew years ago, back then he was earning well, back then he even took me to karaok joints where he even foot the bills for the girl(s) to sit on my laps, back then i was so eager to wait for his calls in the afternoon where he would always said this to me," Eugene, where are you now ? come down to town to see me, happy hour already." , back then i was happy to be a free loader and he would just happy for my company as well.


Back then, i was "free loadering" on Mr Ong's genoresity (seriously there was not even once i had to pay for drinks nor the girls) and he always said this to me back then, " when a man has money, he has clout over many many things) back then he was my idol, he regarded me as his little brother,,(we are ten years apart).......... somehow we lost touch, when he began his other businesses, that was back then.

I got the sense that i knew this man, somehow the feeling was so strong that i knew this man but i still could not be certain that i knew this man. That could not be the Mr Ong (My idol ) that i knew, none of my impressions of Mr Ong's was evident in this man seated 3 tables away from me but my gut feeling prompted me to seek him out.

I stood up, walked over to his table and said," Is that you Mr Ong?" before he answered, he looked up and didn't say anything(may be it made it hard for him to recognise me with my clean shaven head), my instinct spurred me to quickly identify myself. " I am Eugene lah." coldly he acknowledged "Ya Eugene" i asked if i could sit down with him, he nodded.

He looked so frail, his charm was lost, his sportiness was dissapeared and his sense of humor was replaced with forlornness. He felt uneasy sharing the same table with him, quickly he managed a rigid smile and telling me that he had to leave even before i could chat him up further, quickly i asked for his phone number, he said none, instead i gave me my call card.....................i could not believe it that i sat now with him for less than 3 minutes and he said he had to leave.

I am hoping that he would call me, as i really wanted to know what'd happened to my idol "Mr Ong"could he be sick?
