To buy or not to buy...............................

A very dear friend family of ours, has been bugged by his boss to change his car as his boss commented that his car did not live up to his standard of as a branch manager,(he is driving a Waja now), he is single. This dear friend of ours would always ask me and my lovely wife for advice when he needs to make some crucial decisions.

Finally, he decided to buy a Nissan Shelfy which cost about (RM110k), he is a done deal now but now it is his turn to talk us into buying a new car as well, and my lovely wife has been kind of influenced to toll the line into changing a new car.

Over the weekend, i was kind of not so happy about the issue of changing a new car, I told my wife we should not indulge in impulse purchase, currently our two cars need no installments.

I knew my wife was kind of dissappointed with my decision but i really dont think there is a need for a new car yet. I really hope she is ok with it.

Q) Have you ever made a "spur of the moment" purchase that is of BIG ITEM , like car, house ?
Q) Do you really think people can look down on you, if your car doesn't reflect your status?

P/S : I still believe in simplicity.

  1. No... I never made that sort of decisions... I mean, purchasing without planning. However, i do other things spontaneously.

  2. Yes, but usually the spur of the moment involves smaller purchases. The best thing is to wait, wait for at least another month, usually, the novelty dies off, especially for the things that we want rather than the things that we need.

  3. yeah i think when you are fine with your current cars it is not necessary to change, bcs they just depreciate the moment you pay for them, better invest in somewhere else....

ps: i always think many times even when buying cakes hahahahahahaha

  4. oh..that is me..impulsive buyer.. u know or not..one fine evening, i took my 3 kids to the car showroom, wearing like a homemaker, shorts and all.. the salesman didnt look down on us, instead explaining to us with interest and patience.. oooh..i love that.. cos i experienced those salesman before, one look at us, they like tak mahu layan.. but this guy, he was so patient.. treated us like..vip..hehehe.. then before i know it,my kids asked me to sign up..and the rest is history.. now i still have one more year to pay thru my nose.. hahahaa... this is called impulsive and u know what, i didnt regret it... cos i really love this car.. it is so so nice to drive..
so...as for yr wife, dont la say NO immediately..if can afford it, why not.. buy something which u can really afford within yr budget of course.. she will be happy..and when she is happy, the kids are also happy..and when they r happy, u will also be very happy.. that makes a happy family!!

  7. Q1. Not on big items like car or house need my heart to spur my wallet then tell my mind to decide rationally.

Q2. I live within my means and I am the one solely responsible for paying the bills and it's beyond my control to stop them from looking down at me. I rather please my pocket than please their eyes.

  8. Cars depreciate faster than you can say "depreciate" so for me, it definitely requires a lot of thought before purchasing.

  9. There were many many times I had considered changing my car... that was before I had Maine. Now I'm glad I didn't change it or else I'd be struggling to pay the instalments.

Claire has her point too... can afford then why not... It'll make everyone in the family happy ma :))

  10. Wow, you have great self-control indeed. People always itch to change cars esp when the instalments hv been fully paidup. Juz read about Selphy yesterday. It has a beautiful navigation system with a huge screen. YUMZ!

As for me, I'm happily driving my old junk. But i do admit status plays an important role in this society esp when it involves clients confidence in us, so I use the company vehicle when i need to visit clients. :)

  13. Not on big things like CAR/ HOUSE. And whatever car I drive is my business. Never afraid of what people will think. I will have to pay for the mantainence and petrol. Not them.

  14. i ever drives a Mazda Lantis and that was my impulsive purchase.i used it for just about 3 years and i terkena the 1998 economy constraint,i managed to sell it off without continuing the instalments(at a loss of coz).recalling back, not much "important" or meaning for splurging your hard-earned/easy earned money into cars.a small well-taken-care-of kancil will also serves you faithfully till thy kingdom come.if you really2 got the "extras" ....thennn,its always another story lah.

  15. My car is to drive me from point A to B. And is debt free and still serves me well after this years.

I would like to change to a new one if my budget permits, but then again have to think about the installments and interests...

Ps. Hey, heard that prices of car are coming down in May. Wait for another 3 more months mah...
